Jonah 2:1-2 (Mark Hong)

“From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said: ‘In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.’”
- Jonah 2:1-2 -

The Lord God provided a great fish for Jonah; it swallowed him and he stayed in the belly for three days. Some raise questions on how the fish could swallow him and how he survived in the fish's belly for three days. Yet it was proven to be possible that a whale can swallow a person and the person can survive for whales have oxygen in them. Anyway, the great fish was God's provision for Jonah to repent and obey His will. Verse 2 and 7 are clear evidence of Jonah's repentance: “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple" (7).

Jonah wanted to run away from the presence of God. But God found him in the sea and led him to repent. When he repented, the Lord let the fish vomit him out onto the land. We can't escape from the Lord either. We need to repent and turn from our willful way. And then we have His leading hands and he uses us to turn other people to receive His salvation.

Prayer: Lord, help us to sincerely turn to you from our willful ways and follow you with all of our hearts. Please use us as your people to turn many people to you.
