Acts 10:44-46 (Mark Hong)

“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.”
- Acts 10:44-46 -

Today, we see Peter's speech in the house of Cornelius, a Roman centurion. He first spoke of Jesus' ministry: "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him" (38). He then spoke of the death and resurrection of Jesus and how the Lord commissioned the disciples to preach the gospel.

While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. Verse 45-46 say that actually the Holy Spirit was pouring on these Gentiles, and that they spoke in tongues and praised God. Scholars call it the Gentile Pentecost (Chapter 2: Jerusalem Pentecost, chapter 6: Samaria's Pentecost, chapter 10: the Gentile Pentecost, 19: Ephesian Pentecost).

This is our hope as we pray and preach the gospel that the revival fire of the Spirit be kindled and people rejoice in the salvation and praise God.

Prayer: Lord, cause us to bring the revival as we faithfully pray and preach your gospel. Hallelujah!
