“Lord, listen to their threats! We are your servants. So make us brave enough to speak your message. Show your mighty power, as we heal people and work miracles and wonders in the name of your holy Servant Jesus.”
- Acts 4:29-30 -
After being set free, Peter and John went back to the church and reported the threat of the Sanhedrin (23). The followers of the Lord were not scared of this or divided. Instead, they were united and prayed in one heart (24-30). They first gave glory to God, the creator of heaven and earth. Their prayer was not seeking peace passively, but that they may be brave enough to speak the message and do mighty healing work in the name of Jesus. Their prayer was positive and mature to do the work of God (Mt 6:33). Verse 31 is God's response to their prayers: "After they had prayed, the meeting place shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and bravely spoke God’s message." Here, we learn what prayer, we should offer to God in the midst of hardships and even under persecution. It is that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit and preach the gospel boldly. The Lord is pleased to answer such prayers and provides His power and our needs as well (Mt 6:33).
Lord, I pray for the fullness of the Spirit that I may bravely preach the gospel and do the work of healing in His name.
