Hebrews 1:2-3 (Mark Hong)

“but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”
- Hebrews 1:2-3 -

Hebrews was written in the context of the doctrinal attacks of the Jews and the severe persecution of Roman empire. Believers were shaken and some were about to fall away. The author wrote this epistle to warn the apostasy and encourage believers to stand firm in Jesus. He testifies that Christ is superior in being (1:4-4:13) and in ministry (4:14-10:18) and in his ability to make the saints victorious (10:19-13:17). Verse 3 is the most profound statements about the person of Christ in the New Testament: radiance of God's glory, the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. It reminds us of John 1:14: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

He is both our Savior: he had provided purification for sins through His death on the cross at Calvary. He is our eternal high priest and King, who sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. We too face many challenges in life like the early Christians. The world's sinful waves are engulfing us. In Afghanistan, Christians are brutally slaughtered by the Taliban.

We should still stand firm in Jesus our Savior and eternal King and priest.

Prayer: Dear Lord, have mercy on your people in Afghanistan. Stretch out your mighty hand and protect them. Your kingdom come!
