Luke 1:68-69 (Mark Hong)

Christmas Devotion

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David."
- Luke 1:68-69 -

Zechariah prophesied that the Messiah who was coming is the horn of salvation. Thus the baby Jesus is the horn of salvation. His salvation is the forgiveness of sins (77). And it is from the power of sin and Satan. We were destined to live under the power of sin and Satan as slaves to sin. However, Jesus' cross transformed us to be the servants of the living God. Thus, Zechariah tells, "to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days" (74-75).

Jesus' salvation is also from all elements of darkness; "because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace" (78-79). What a powerful Savior, our Lord Jesus is! What a powerful transformation we have to live as new creations (2 Co 5:17)! Thus, Christmas is the good news of great joy for us. All of these is not because we deserve, but by the tender mercy of God (72, 78).

Prayer: Praise be to Jesus, the horn of salvation and the rising sun. Help us to walk with Jesus and have victories over sin and Satan daily. Help us to be enabled by the Holy Spirit to serve the living God without fear in holiness and righteousnenss all our days.
