“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”
Luke 11:34-36
Jesus tells us that the good news of the kingdom of God must not be hidden; we should radiate the light of the kingdom of God that is within us, This was a powerful metaphor. Those out of whose eyes shines the light of the kingdom of God are spiritually healthy, but the darkened eye indicates inner darkness, under the control of the evil forces of darkness. We whose eyes see and reflect the kingdom of God have the promise: the light which entered the world with Jesus shines in the darkness and the evil forces of darkness can never overpower it. It is the command of the Lord our God: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you" (Isaiah 60:1).
CLOSING PRAYER
O Lord, my God, thank you for bringing light into my darkness. Help me to shine that light so that others might see you.
