Ephesians 1:3-6 (Mark Hong)

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves."

Ephesians 1:3-6

What do we look at when we consider whether we are blessed? To our bank account, our children or grandchildren, our careers, or our reputation with others? Paul, here, writes that the blessed person is one who has been blessed by God with every spiritual blessing in Christ. In love, God has acted for you, with all wisdom and understanding, according to the wealth of his grace, and in accordance with his plan and pleasure. God is pleased to bless you.

The blessing God gives is not to be transported away from life’s tough times, nor to be guaranteed wealth, children, or long life. It is to be chosen, holy and blameless, adopted, redeemed, forgiven, included, and marked as someone who will receive a glorious inheritance.

Paul reminds us to look at God and consider what he has done for us, for then we find that we are blessed beyond measure with blessings that will not spoil or fade.

Closing Prayer

Father in Heaven, thank you for the spiritual blessings that are mine in Christ. The grace and mercy that you have lavished on me are beyond any measure. Enable me to express my thankfulness and praise in all that I am and do (edited from Encounter with God).
