John 8:12 (Mark Hong)

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world.Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'”

John 8:12

Jesus is saying, ‘I am that presence among you now: God’s presence. Come after me on life’s journey. I will guide you always.’ Furthermore, his reach is not restricted to the Jewish temple courts: he is the Light of the World. Astonishingly, when pilgrims are about to scatter home, he claims for himself God’s ancient promise to the anointed Servant and Messiah: ‘I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’ No one can argue light into existence: it simply is there. He is there. Have you closed your eyes tight to God’s life-giving Light?

Closing Prayer

Thank you, Jesus, for making yourself known to me and for calling me to follow you. I am grateful that there is no darkness where you lead me (edited from Encounter with God).
