Luke 21:27-28 (Mark Hong)

"At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
- Luke 21:27-28 -

Our text today (21:5-28) tells us the signs of the end days. Verses 5-6 foretell the destruction of the Jerusalem temple, verses 7-19 foretell the signs (8 false messiah, 9-10 war, 11 earthquakes, famines and pestilence, 12-19 persecution), and 20-24 the fall of Jerusalem. During the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD, about 1.1 million people were slaughtered and 97,000 were taken as captives. This fall of Jerusalem foreshadows the final judgment. Yet we God's children have a blessed hope of Jesus' second coming and the new heaven and new earth. Jesus comes in a cloud with power and great glory. As we go through the COVID 19 pandemic, political chaos, economic difficulties, we shouldn't just fall into despair like the rest of the world. We should instead stand up in the hope of our redemption in Jesus' second coming. We should fulfill His goal to share the blessed hope we have in Jesus Christ our coming King.

Prayer: Lord, we fix our eyes on you, the author and perfecter of our faith. We stand up and lift our heads in this dark time for our redemption is drawing near.
