“I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father. ‘But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.’"
- Luke 15:18-20 -
In the text before today’s passage, Jesus told the parable of the lost sheep and the parable of the lost coin. In our text today, Jesus tells the parable of the prodigal son. The father welcomed the son even though his son wasted all of the money in wild living. The father had been waiting for his son to come back and that is why he could recognize his son right away, even though he looked like a beggar. His running toward the son, embracing the son and kissing him show us God's unfailing love towards sinners like us. He was happy that his son returned safely. He was happy for his son returned in repentance, knowing how great it is to live at his father's house. So we should come to God as we are. We have His forgiveness and rich welcome.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your unfailing love toward me, a sinner. May I hold onto your love and put it into practice. May I resemble you.
