Haggai 1:7-8 (Mark Hong)

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,’ says the Lord.”
- Haggai 1:7-8 -

The Israelites returned from their exile in Babylon. Their first priority was rebuilding the temple that was in ruin. Yet the work faced local opposition and it was stopped for 18 years. During this time, they were busy building their own houses.

The temple was at the heart of the covenant relationship for it was where God promised to dwell and meet with his people. Neglecting the reconstruction of the temple, they showed disregard for their covenant relationship with God. So God spoke through His prophet to rebuild the temple. It will please Him and He will be honored.

We, New Testament saints, have the same covenant with God in Jesus Christ. He wants us to seek Him first. Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these shall be added on to you." John 15:5 says, "I am the vine you are the branches; if you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing." Let us reflect on our current priorities in life. What is the call of God for you today to rebuild your covenant relationship with God?

Prayer: Dear Lord, we seek you and renew our priorities in you this morning. Please use us to bring glory and honor to you as our life priority. We believe that you will meet our needs in your glorious riches.
