Zechariah 14:8-9 (Mark Hong)

“On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter. The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.”
- Zechariah 14:8-9 -

In the Old Testament, “that day” refers to the day of God's vengeance upon evil. In verses 1-5, we see the phenomenon of the last days in which people suffer greatly. In it, God will destroy the evil forces in the world and deliver his people. "Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him" (5b). So it encourages us to have hope in Him.

How then can we live as holy ones in this sinful world? Verse 8 says, "On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem..." Here, 'living waters' refer to the words of God and the Holy Spirit (Jn 738). When we read the Bible, the words sanctify us through the Holy Spirit (Jn 17:17). We experience the living water flowing within us. Verse 20-21 tell us about the completion of God's redemptive work on the coming of Christ. It shows that all God’s people will be holy (20,21) because of the once-for-all sacrifice made by Jesus, it will be fully effective in our lives (Hebrews 7:27).

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the living water of the Holy Spirit within me. Let me drink it daily that I may be refreshed and Your blessing flow out into the world through me.
