“And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?”
- Jonah 4:11 -
Jonah became angry with God, for God forgave the repenting Ninevites and relented His plan for judging them. Jonah was so angry that he even wanted to die. God asked Jonah why he does not care about the 120,000 Ninevites who were ignorant and living in the darkness of their sins. The Lord our God made the sea and dry ground and all the creatures in them, including human beings. He cares about all the creatures, especially humans whom He created in His image. The story of Jonah teaches us that we should broaden our minds and embrace the whole world. Our love is selfish and self-centered. God, who wanted Jonah to embrace even his enemy nation, Assyria, also wants to embrace the whole world. He wants us to go and preach the gospel even to the ends of the earth (Ac 1:8).
Prayer: Lord, thank you for demonstrating your love while I was still your enemy. Broaden our hearts so that we embrace all people, including our enemy nations.
