“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’”
- Genesis 3:8-9 -
Genesis 1:1-2:3 is the creation story (God is repeated 35 times). Genesis 2:4-25 is the story of the garden of Eden (the Lord God is repeated 11 times). We see how much God cared for human beings. Our text (Gen 3:1-13) is the story of the fall of human. Interestingly, Satan asked Eve a question about doubting God's love. Satan used the term 'God' and the woman also answered with the same term, 'God.' However, the author of Genesis introduces God as 'the Lord God.' After their fall, God sought Adam and Eve. He gave them the opportunity to turn back to Him. Sadly, they didn't repent. Curse and death happened and paradise was lost. The garden of Eden, the garden of joy, turned into the garden of death.
Yet we praise the Lord God that He provided salvation; He chose to die in our place so that we have forgiveness and eternal life in Christ. Thus, Calvary is the restoration of our failure. It is the garden of life for all who come to God through Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Lord God, thank You that we can come to you through your Son and that His work on Calvary has brought us life.
