Mark 8:6-8 (Mark Hong)

“He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them. The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. About four thousand were present.”
- Mark 8:6-8 -

Our text is similar to Jesus' Feeding of the 5,000 (Mk 6:30-44). The difference is Jesus fed 4000, using 7 loaves of bread and a small fish. The thing that is the same is Jesus' compassion for the crowd. His compassion caused this great miracle. The disciples, who brought a small amount of resources, obeyed and the distributed food became the main character of these miracles. The crowd came to Jesus to get good teachings, for His healing and to eat free food. They came and went. But the disciples followed Jesus, obeyed Him and grew in the compassion and the power of Jesus. They became great apostles who did the great work of God in the book of Acts. Are you one of the crowd or a follower of Christ?

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your compassion for us and becaming the bread of life. Help us to grow in your compassion so that we too do what you did by faith.
