“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
- Mark 9:42, 50 -
In today’s text, Jesus sternly warns us not to cause new young believers to sin. In order to teach the seriousness of causing others to sin, Jesus says that we should remove a hand, foot, or eye if it causes us to sin. Jesus warns us not to take sin lightly but to strive for the holiness of God. And sin to be the 'last and least' thing in our lives (Encounter with God: 3/2/21). Then we will be formed in the likeness of God who is holy. This is how we become salty Christians in the world.
Prayer: Lord, help us to pursue your holiness daily, cutting off all the things that cause us to sin. Help us to live as salty Christians in this sinful world.
