"March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
- Joshua 6:3-5 -
The first battle after crossing the Jordan the Israelites faced was conquering Jericho. God's instruction for this battle was strange: it was to march around the city once for six days with the ark of the Lord. On the seventh day, march around seven times. On the seventh mark, there would be a sound of long blast on the trumpets, then the whole army give a loud shout. Then the wall of the city will collapse. Why did God give this instruction? It was testing the Israelites to trust in God and obey. It should be done for six days and on the seventh day even 7 times. Humanly speaking, it seemed foolish to do it. Yet it was God's way of giving the Israelites' His victory (2). In this time, the Israelites were to be quiet. It was to remember how God was with them, freeing them from their slavery, enabled them to cross over the Red Sea, how God provided them manna, victories over Sihon and Og and recently crossing the Jordan. It was their time of worship to God. Then on the seventh day, they were commanded to give a loud shout -- the shout of faith and victory. Here, we clearly see that the battle belongs to the Lord (1 Sa 17:47).
Prayer: Dear Lord, we face our own Jericho, something invincible. Lord, we trust in in you and will follow your instruction. We believe we will see our Jericho to be conquered. Praise be to the Lord!
