“We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”
- Joshua 2:10-11 -
The story of Rahab in Jericho tells us two things:
First, God's grace reaches to all. Rahab was a gentile woman and an outcast. What was worse, she was a prostitute. Yet she believed in God, confessing that the God of the Israelites is the God in heaven and on the earth below. She stood on God's side.
She sought mercy (12-13).
Second, she acted in faith. Humanly speaking, she betrayed her own people, hiding two spies and helping them to return to their camp safely. Faith requires actions that can endanger us or do things beyond our traditions.
Rahab believed in God and acted in faith. As a result, she and her family members were saved in the time of Jericho's destruction. Waht is more, she was included in the genalogy of Jesus (Mt 1:5).
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your great grace upon all who come to you in faith. Your grace is far greater than our comprehension. Help me to trust in you and do all things in faith.
