Ephesians 1:18-20 (Mark Hong)

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength."
- Ephesians 1:18-20 -

The above text is Paul's earnest prayer for the Ephesian church. After thanking of their faith in Jesus Christ and the love for the saints (15-16), he prayed for them that they may know God the Father better and better through the Holy Spirit (17). He then prayed that they may have hope in the riches of his glorious inheritance in God's kingdom (18) and God's incomparably great power that abides in the saints.

The church of Ephesus was planted by Paul in Acts 19. It once served a great role for the evangelizing of Asia Minor (Acts 19:10). It then faced many challenges, such as opposing riots (Acts 19:21-41), and the false teachers (Rev. 2:2). The most serious problem later they faced was losing their first love to Jesus (Rev 2:4). The same is true with our faith. We face many difficulties and challenges in life. The most serious one in the life of faith is that we lose our first love to Jesus. Thus, it is most important prayer for us and for our church that the eyes of our heart may be enlightened and we may be filled with the hope of the riches of the God's glorious inheritance for His saints. And also His incomparably great power that abides with us.

Prayer: Lord, please open the eyes of my heart and your saints that we see great hope in you and great power that abides with us. Hallelujah!
