“There was a certain man of Zorah, of the tribe of the Danites, whose name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and had no children. And the angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, ‘Behold, you are barren and have not borne children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.”

Israel once again fell into the cycle of doing evil - probably falling into idolatry. God used the Philistines to rule the Israelites cruelly for 40 years. They needed the deliverer and they needed God's intervention. So God in His mercy chose a barren couple, Manoa and his wife, to give them a son. And the angel went to the wife of Manoa and delivered the news that she will be conceived and have a son. This story is so much like that of the story in Luke 1:26-38, the story of foretelling our Savior's birth to the virgin Mary. The Lord our God is merciful; He desired to deliver us that He sent His Son for our salvation and eternal victory.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your Son, who delivered us from our misery of sins and slavery to Satan. May we faithfully follow Jesus and be used in His salvation work in our time.
