“At mealtime Boaz said to her, ‘Come over here. Have some bread and dip it in the wine vinegar.’ When she sat down with the harvesters, he offered her some roasted grain. She ate all she wanted and had some left over. As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, “Let her gather among the sheaves and don’t reprimand her. Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke her.’”

After all of their grieving experiences, Naomi and Ruth started to have mercy and grace. It came through the kindness of Boaz, who was their close guardian-redeemer. Naomi, who was full of bitterness started to have hope in her soul. She said, “He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead” (20). For the first time, thanksgiving was on Naomi’s lips. She began to to hope that God’s Law of the guardian-redeemer (Lev 25:25–55) through Boaz. In the same way, we can have hope as we see what God had done in the past or what God is doing in our midst thought we might be in devastating situations. Yes, when we are struggling with painful situations, we can still look to the Lord, who has steadfast love and faithfulness, in caring for us (2 Cor 1:20–22).
Prayer: Dear Lord, open my eyes so that I can see your faithfulness and unfailing love and that I can overcome a gloomy situation.
