“‘The Lord bless you, my daughter,’ he replied. ‘This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you, all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.”
- Ruth 3:10-11 -
Our text today is very uncomfortable as we see Ruth was approaching Boaz's room at night. Her action could be seen as sexual promiscuity by Boaz. Yet it was Ruth's obedience to Naomi's instruction. Perhaps this was the only way to seek the redemption of Boaz for their land and possible to reestablish a family. So Boaz recognized it and commended her as a woman of noble character. Again, Ruth could have chosen a different way to find a younger man or a richer person. Yet she followed Naomi, committing her future into God's hand, we see that she is fully committed herself to God. We face many situations where we feel we may compromise our Christian character and our principles of God to get what we need. Ruth sets a good example for us to fully commit ourselves to God.
One young man visited me yesterday. He is one of the students whom I ministered long time ago. He received Jesus through 1:1 Bible study with me. Later, he asked me to bless him to go to Argentina as a missionary. I reluctantly blessed him. I thought he was still young in many ways. When he fully committed himself to God, though, the Spirit enabled him to serve the Lord for the past 20 years, touching many lives. I felt really humbled before God. How beautiful it is to see people who are fully committed to God.
Prayer: Dear Lord, raise young men and women who fully commit themselves for your kingdom. Please use me as a facilitator continually for such cause.
