“Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.”
- Hebrews 8:1-2 -
The author of Hebrews tells us in this text that Christ completed His redemption and ascended into heaven. He sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (1). There He serves as the new high priest. Compared to the high priests in the Old Testament, Jesus is superior for He is the Mediator of the new covenant (6). The priests in the OT were imperfect for they too were sinners and they offered imperfect sacrifices. But Jesus is perfect for he is the Son of God. He offered the perfect sacrifice by giving Himself on the cross. Thus, He is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises (6). We who are in Christ are holy and glorious beings who will enter the kingdom of heaven and we should live here on earth as holy pilgrims.
Prayer: Lord, we thank You for being the mediator of a better covenant based on better promises, all for our eternal benefit (this prayer is from Encounter with God).
