Hebrews 7:6-7 (Mark Hong)

“This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. And without doubt the lesser is blessed by the greater.”
- Hebrews 7:6-7 -

Melchizedek's blessing on Abraham is in Genesis 14:13–24; the priests collecting tithes are in Numbers 18:20–32. Melchizedek is a mysterious being: Verse 3 says, "Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever" (3). The author tells 'Just think how great he was!’ (4). But we have a greater one than the mysterious King Melchizedek. He is Jesus, the Son of God, our eternal high priest (Heb 4:14).

Melchizedek collected a tenth from Abraham and He blessed Abraham (Gen 4:17-20). The lesser is blessed by the greater (6-7). Since Melchizedek had a divine authority, he could bless Abraham, who had God's promise. Through Melchizedek's greatness, we can imagine Christ's greatness who is the Son of God. He can bless us fully. With His blessings, we can live as channels of blessings in the world.

Challenge: What blessing will you seek today? What blessing can you impart today, to whom, in what way?
