“Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God. Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.”
- Psalm 38:21-22 -
Like Job, suffers the emotional and social pain of being abandoned by those closest to him. Job’s friends turned against him and even his own wife advised him to ‘Curse God and die’.4 In David’s case, friends, companions, and neighbors are all avoiding him (v 11). Loneliness and isolation are the tools of Satan. David’s prayer at the end is that God will not forsake him (vs 21,22) and he expresses faith in God as ‘my Lord and my Savior’. Today, we have the wonderful promise that he will never leave or forsake us. ‘He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]’5 God answered David’s penitent prayer; he will answer yours.
Prayer: Mighty God, sometimes the complexities of life overwhelm me. It is trouble upon trouble. Help me in my desperation Lord.
