“When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
- Genesis 5:21-24 -
In Genesis chapter 5, we see the genealogy from Adam to Noah. In it, we see that most people lived around 900 years. Lamech who died at the age of 777 died early compared to the others. In this genealogy, we mainly see when they became a father and how many more years they lived. However, one person, Enoch's life was special: "After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters" (22). Perhaps, he too went through some time (till the age of 65) in sin like most of us. Yet after he became a father, he seriously started to walk with God; it lasted 300 years and then God took him away. He is very special in that he went to heaven without experiencing death. We see the pattern of people's life in Genesis 5: birth, marriage, having children, and death. There is not much meaning to our lives if we just live according to this pattern. Enoch set the good example in life of turning to God early and walking with Him, knowing Him, being mature in Him and going to Him to spend eternity with Him.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving us the grace of Immanuel in Jesus Christ so that we can walk with you. How sweet it is to walk with you daily!
