Mark 5:32-34 (Mark Hong)

“But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.’”
- Mark 5:32-34 -

We see in our text Jesus' healing of the woman who suffered for twelve long years with bleeding. You can imagine how pitiful she was in that condition (25–27). She probably had lost her beauty, strength and joy in life. According to the law of God, she was also considered unclean (Lev 15:25–28).

In that desperate situation, she found hope in Jesus and came to Jesus. From behind Jesus, she touched His cloak and she was healed immediately. Jesus looked for her and helped her to confess publicly what had happened to her. Why did Jesus do that? It was not to expose her to public shame. Rather, it was a public declaration of God's gracious healing upon her so that she can be fully restored to the community. It was also to help her to have his blessing personally so that she can live in the deepened grace of God. So He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering” (34). In this blessing, Jesus declared that both her body and soul were healed (“healed” in Greek, sesoken, also means salvation). Jesus' blessing, 'go in peace' in Greek means 'go into peace.' Jesus blessed her to live a new life, being freed from her life of suffering in sickness and sins. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your healing and saving grace upon us. May we come to you daily to praise you for your grace and live in the deeper grace and blessings.
