Mark 6:41-43 (Mark Hong)

“Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.”

Jesus’ feeding of the 5,000 (this number is only men, could have easily been 10,000 or 15,000 total) in a 'remote place' (35) leads us to think of God feeding the Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. This story helps us to see that Jesus is more than what He has done. He provided enough for the large crowd with very little resources. It shows us that He can provide for our needs in the riches of His glory (Phi 4:19). This event points to His crucifixion, in which He would meet our spiritual needs; He is the bread of life. Jesus said in John 6:33, "For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” We praise the Lord Jesus who feeds us both physically and spiritually with great compassion.

Prayer: Lord, we praise you for who you are and what you have done for us. We praise your compassion for us, meeting our needs and even meeting our need for forgiveness. Hallelujah!
