Genesis 12:2 (Mark Hong)

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing."
- Genesis 12:2 -

Seeing that the flood didn't solve the sin problem of the world, God made a new plan to call Abram and establish a redemptive history by sending His Messiah. God's promise to Abram was to make him into a great nation and let him be a blessing to all peoples of all nations (2-3).

This promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ as we receive salvation from our sins. Jesus came from the line of Abram. In order to fulfill this call of God, Abram had to obey God by leaving the idolatrous Mesopotamian region, though it was a fertile land and developed land. He had to carefully follow the call of God to become a great nation before God. Genesis 18:19 shows us God's purpose in calling Abram in more detail: "For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”

God wants us to be a Great Nation that resembles God. This is how we can be a blessing to all nations as we reveal who God is.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for calling each of us in Jesus Christ. Help us to become a great nation first and a blessing for all nations.
