Ephesians 5:3-5 (Mark Hong)

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
- Ephesians 5:3-5 -

In chapter 5, Paul teaches us the fundamental truth that we should have the right relationship with God. This is the reason why he says that we should be imitators of God (1) and live in the life of love (2). And then he says that we completely get rid of elements of sins such as sexual immorality, or of impurity, or of greed, or of coarse joking. Some phrases, 'there must not be even a hint of' (3), 'because these are improper for God’s holy people' (3) and 'which are out of place' (4) tell us that it is not optional but essential to our journey. We can do it when we are penitent of our sins and be washed through the blood of Christ. The Lord then leads us through His Holy Spirit to overcome the dark elements of sin within us. We then are able to say in the end, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have kept the faith" (2 Ti 4:7). Hallelujah!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the wonderful blood of Christ that washes dark stains of sin in me. I walk with you daily and imitate your holiness and your love.
