Judges 4:14-15 (Mark Hong)

“Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?” So Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men following him. At Barak’s advance, the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword, and Sisera got down from his chariot and fled on foot.”
- Judges 4:14-15 -

Our text Judges 4 starts with the repeated phrase in the book of Judges (the Israelites' falling into the cycle of evil): "Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord" (1). God delivered the Israelites into the hands of Jabin the king of the Canaan; Jabin cruelly oppressed the Israelites for 20 years. God's deliverance came when the Israelites cried to the Lord. He used the three people: Deborah, Barak, Jael. Deborah and Jael are women and Barak was a wimp who said to Deborah, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go” (8). Yet, God used him when he obeyed God's will. Verse 15 says, "At Barak’s advance, the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword..." Though Sisera had 900 chariots and had been an undefeated warrior, Barak could have an overwhelming victory.

It teaches us of our battle against Satan, who is mighty. Though we are weak and fallible, if we obey the Lord's command, "Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations" (Mt 28:19), God can use us for His glory. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Lord, we aware of our battle against our Sisera, Satan. Give us faith and courage to obey you to fight our battle that we bring glory to you.
