Habakkuk 3:17-19 (Mark Hong)

"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights."
- Habakkuk 3:17-19 -

The book of Habakkuk begins with complaints, but he learned to listen to God and has a new perspective on God’s works. He could remember what God had done in the past (1–15) and put his trust in God for the future. Thus, he says, "Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us" (16). He even rejoiced and praised God (17-19). How can Habakkuk move from complaining to praise? How can we from our own despairing situations to praise God? The answer is the life of prayer? Like Habakkuk, we can complain to God in prayer. Yet we need to listen to God. It will lead us to have new perspectives on God and a deeper trust in Him. Are we willing to listen to God in our life of prayer?

Prayer: Lord, help me to have such a life of prayer to listen to you that I may have new perspectives in you and deeper trust in you. Hallelujah!
