Genesis 12:17-20 (Mark Hong)

"But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai. So Pharaoh summoned Abram. ‘What have you done to me?’ he said. ‘Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? ...Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.’"

Our text Genesis 12:10-20 can be divided into two: Abraham's first failure of faith in going to Egypt (10-16) and how God restores Abraham in His unfailing love (17-20). We learn three things from this text: 1) No human being can be saved on his or her own merits. Noah, the righteous man of his time, Abraham, the father of faith and David, the greatest king of Israel all fail and even committed sins. We all needs God's grace (Ro 3:24). 2) We should trust in God in all situations. When we trust in our own strength and worldly wisdom, we fall into a pit. We should trust in God even in a most desperate situations. 3) God's protection upon His saints are beyond time and space. He doesn't fall asleep or slumber (Ps 121:1-8). Because of God's love and protection, we can live as victors in this troubled world. We overcome evil schemes of the devil.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you so much for your unfailing love upon me. I am full of weaknesses and sins. Only by your boundless love and grace, I am what I am. I will continually trust in you and follow you. Use me as a blessing like you used Abraham.
