Genesis 13:8-9 (Mark Hong)

“So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.’”
- Genesis 13:8-9 -

In this text, we see a great contrast of Abram's life. In chapter 12, Abram failed in faith and was rebuked by Pharaoh; In today's text, we see a different man. He is gracious, generous, and acting with faith in God’s promise. In between, theses events, we first see Abram's return to Bethel where he first built an altar in the land of Canaan (3,4). We are sure that Abram renewed his faith in God as he experienced God's unfailing love upon him in Egypt. He probably repented his unbelief. Our failures and falling in our journey of faith shouldn't be a fatal one. We see how weak, we are and we are in the need of God's grace moment by moment.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your unfailing love and helping us to be restored again. May we have Bethel - the place of penitence and renewal of your grace.
