“Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.”
- Hebrews 6:17-18 -
In verses 13-15, the author tells about the example of Abraham's faith. God said to Abraham, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants" (14). After waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised (15). In verses 16-18, the author reminds the believers that God still remembers His promise and saves His people. He encourages the believers to put their hope in God and have victory in faith. We have two unchangeable things of God (18): His promise and His oath. So we are the ones who flee from this sinful world as Abraham had left Ur of Chaldeans. We go on a pilgrimage to the kingdom of God.
Prayer: Lord, it is impossible for You to lie. We take comfort in Your promises and oath to us.
